Three day weekend

Posted In: Everyday life — January 16, 2005 @ 2:31 pm — Peter

It is day two of a three day weekend… So far we have spent a fair amount of time running errands and lounging around the house. I have enjoyed sleeping in the last few days, yesterday I slept until noon. After our sleeping marathon, we went grocery shopping. This time, we carefully planned a menu to avoid buying anything and everything that looked tasty. I must say, we exercised an amazing amount of self control despite the amount of yummy vegan items that were on sale. To complete our shopping, we had to visit four grocery stores… I was somewhat annoyed by this, but they were all relatively close together. First was King Soopers, we go there to get cheap items that are vegan but not organic. Items like canned tomatoes, beans, etc. If we were to buy these items at Sunflower, they would cost twice as much. Perhaps when we have more money we will purchase organic equivalents. Sunflower had some decent deals, mostly in produce and vegan meat analogues. Onto Wild Oats… Sunflower seems to no longer carry vital wheat glutel. Our menu for the next two weeks involves many seitan dishes and require this this ingredient. I’ll follow this post up with the recipe for homemade seitan. Finally, Whole Foods. We *really* didn’t need to go there, however, they carry a new variety of vegan cheese that has been the talk of the RMAD mailing list. That concluded our shopping marathon…

This has been a movie weekend also. On Friday night we went to see Closer with Jude Law, Natalie Portman, and Julia Roberts. This great film was set in London and involved a bizarre love quadrilateral which ends poorly for all involved parties. Natalie Portman and Jude Law made for a hot couple, puzzling how he could have a fling with Julia Roberts… Anyway, the theater was swamped. We had to trek out to the burbs to use the AMC gift cards I got for xmas. Amazing, we have never had problems finding parking as theaters in Denver. You would think the burb theaters are serving less people, I guess this is not the case. We almost left because of the parking situation. People were getting aggressive in the lot and I felt threatened by this ass in this Dodge Ram 350 Hemi tailing me with his rumbling engine. Eventually we found a spot and then were greeted by a huge line to buy tickets… Ah, the lovely suburbs. Last night we rented Monsieur Ibrahim. We saw the trailer for this movie when we rented Goodbye Lenin. Monsieur Ibrahim is a movie about a Jewish boy in France that is forced to grow up quickly due to the actions of his deadbeat father. Shockingly, he saves money for neighborhood hookers by stealing groceries and feeding his father cat food claiming it is paté. After his father is fired from his job, he packs up and leaves, abandoning his son. By this point, the boy has become close friends with the man who runs the grocery and the man adopts him. Eventually, they go on a great adventure to Turkey, the homeland of the grocer.

This morning has been spent hacking the CSS elements of our website. You may notice the change in fonts and other visual elements. This will be an ongoing effort until I am happy with the organization of the CSS file. To help my organize all the things I want to do with our website, I downloaded a tool called Tasks. Hopefully this tool will help organize the rest of my life also. Anyone who has known me for longer than a year knows I have struggled to keep myself organized. I have tried paper planners, PDAs, software programs, etc. This one might do it! It is web-based and has some great features. It is not overly complex and seems easy to maintain. If I manage to keep up with it, I will consider a donation to the author, a fellow Denver code monkey

It is creeping into the late afternoon and I need to get started on the batch of seitan… Salut
