Etc…Posted In: Everyday life — February 14, 2005 @ 8:12 pm — StephanieI played with Jasc’s Animation Shop 3 and made something silly: Peter is at class tonight and won’t be home until 10:30, so I’m just hanging out at home entertaining myself with my lame attempts at graphics. We enjoyed gorgeous weather this weekend, which was very much appreciated by all–especially Iris. We took her to the dog park, where she ran amok and charmed several dogs into following her wherever she went. The B*A*L*L was thrown until our arms gave out (her legs never did) and we headed home. Before the dog park, we checked out the church we’ve been meaning to investigate. No, the godless heathens haven’t “seen the light”, the church is a Unitarian Universalist church. People of all faiths and of no faiths are welcome. We attended an orientation for prospective members before the sermon’s second seating. It was interesting. In lieu of religious hymns, folk songs, a tango song, and some new age-y kind of tunes. The place was a haven for liberals, it seemed. John Kerry bumperstickers were a mainstay in the parking lot. Paganists, Wiccas, Buddhists, Atheists, Christians, and Agnostics all in the same place…all searching for community, peace, acceptance, and their own truth. There is no cramming of the J-man down throats, no judgemental folks looking down on you for living your life the way you feel is right, and no eternal damnation damnation for not being a theist. After we attend a few more Sundays, we intend on joining their Habitat For Humanity group, the Buddhist study group, the meditation group, and maybe the young couple’s group. Although we’ve been in Denver for over a year now, we still don’t know very many people and have no close friends locally. We figured that this would be a good way to meet people and to join an enclave of liberally minded folks hiding from the Focus On the Family/Bushy followers. Well, Peter unexpectantly came home early! I want to cuddle, so I’m shutting up now. |
