…Posted In: Everyday life — April 26, 2005 @ 12:03 am — StephanieMy husband made the most delicious batch of mashed potatoes just for me. How lucky am I? Don’t be jealous! Now Vinnie is demanding my attention and some snuggles. <3
The home stretchPosted In: Academic, Everyday life — April 21, 2005 @ 9:16 am — PeterI have one more week left of MSCI 600 after tonight and cannot wait to be finished up. Not that I have disliked the class, I just need a break from school. The 8 week classes at Regis are quite intensive and you are forced to work aggressively throughout the entire term to complete all the required assignments. I still have to wrap up my final project, a 20-25 page report on the IT business alignment of the organization I work for. In addition, I have to put a presentation that summarizes my report. I’m looking forward to the presentation most. This class has lacked presentations from students and I look forward to seeing what my peers have to say. I’ll likely use OpenOffice Impress again to build my slides. I love its ability to export slides to an HTML-based slideshow… On Tuesday night, Stephanie and I went to Cherry Creek Mall to get me a replacement pair of glasses. Iris managed to get a hold of my glasses again and chewed the stems up a bit more. They are still wearable, but slightly uncomfortable… Turns out my vision benefits plan is not accepted at Lenscrafters. I didn’t check before going, I just assumed Lenscrafters accepted all vision programs. Instead of heading home afterwards, we went shopping at Foley’s. We stumbled upon this great looking Calivin Klien suit and I could not pass it up. I have been intending on getting a suit for years now and have been avoiding the actual purchase for quite a while. After trying it on and deciding it was the one, I went over to the tailor and had it marked for adjustments. I was surprise that the tailoring of the back and sleeves would only be an extra $20. So, I have a suit.. mission accomplished. Another great thing at Foley’s… not only were Dockers on sale, but they had them in size 34×31. I rant about this every time I shop for pants. I am somewhat short, but a 30 length is too short and 32 is too long. Rarely do I find 31 length. I’m wearing a pair of the pants today and I really really like them. I may have to go back over the weekend and get a few more colors because they are on sale for $25 a pair. Yesterday at work I helped seal up a Postfix configuration for our mail relay server project. Something that seemed lacking from the Postfix distro was simple mail queue management. Sometimes messages get stuck in the queue for various reasons and they may need to be requeued or removed. The included tools are not very convenient, so I combed the Internet for something else. I found pfqueue, a ncurses-based console tool for postfix queue management. It was 99% there with features, so I cracked open the code and added the last feature we needed. I created a diff patch and submitted it to the author and he replied saying my code would be included in the next release. Ah, the joy of open source software… I’ve been reading this blog alot lately. I don’t know why, but I’m more interested in blogs of people who are geographically close to me… I have found some great blogs on the blogroll and also realized that I have a long way to go in learning how to blog. The majority of my posts are journal like in nature and are hardly interesting to anyone that does not know me personally. Perhaps I’ll read one of the blogging 101 articles I found a few weeks ago…
Its a beautiful day in the neighborhood…Posted In: Everyday life — April 16, 2005 @ 2:37 pm — PeterThe weather is wonderful today, somewhere around 65F degrees. This morning I went over to my brother’s to see his newly acquired feline and go have some coffee at Cafe Europa. He polished off a massive breakfast burrito that he regretfully admitted would result in horrible heartburn later in the day. I’m happy I don’t subject myself to food that retaliates with painful indigestion. Well, I guess I get wicked gas from time to time, but that is not painful… for me at least I had a great class this week. The lecture covered IT governance models and the professor veered off the slides and talked in depth about his experience as CIO of Colorado state government. This was much more beneficial that covering slides of material I have already read in the textbook. The class discussion was lively and everyone participated. In my opinion, this is how all gradulate level class sessions should be, rather than reviewing textbook material with little linkage to practical application. Tonight I have to get a significant amount of work done for class. Two papers and a semester project… Oh My! As I type, I’m sitting outside on our patio catsitting a couple felines that are roaming the yard. Vinnie had to be escorted back into the house after jumping on top of the fence and nearly escaping the yard. I’m amazed that he is able to get on top of our 6 foot fence. This is the same cat that whines at the washing machine for a lift to reach the cat food we keep on top. Perhaps the fresh air and sun inspires him to be more athletic. Our two best behaved cats are mostly lounging around roasting in the sun. Turtle likes to camp out in a small plant plot in the middle of the lawn. I snapped a few photos of her and will post them later. Tigger is munching on some grass and laying around. The grass is good for them and aids with digestion, however, they usually vomit it up a few minutes after coming back in the house. I really wish the could vomit before coming back in… In a few minutes we will be going to the dog park. We think Iris needs a bit more exercise (and so do we!), so we’ll take her and her friend for some fun. With the great weather we are having, I imagine there will be lots of dogs there I should take our camera to catch the madness on film (or SD memory…). As I was leaving work on Friday, the SVP of IT updated us on some big news going on at the company. A huge project that resulted in a vacation freeze has been delayed 60 days at least. This is great news for our summer plans and will now have a shot at taking the roadtrip back to Chicago that we have been talking about.
Liberal use of…Posted In: Everyday life — April 13, 2005 @ 1:58 pm — StephanieAccording the always entertaining Wikipedia, here follows 46 films that use the word ‘fuck’ most extensively… The films in bold are those which I’ve seen, those in italics are films I plan on eventually seeing, and the others are those I have no intention of seeing. 1.
