Its a beautiful day in the neighborhood…Posted In: Everyday life — April 16, 2005 @ 2:37 pm — PeterThe weather is wonderful today, somewhere around 65F degrees. This morning I went over to my brother’s to see his newly acquired feline and go have some coffee at Cafe Europa. He polished off a massive breakfast burrito that he regretfully admitted would result in horrible heartburn later in the day. I’m happy I don’t subject myself to food that retaliates with painful indigestion. Well, I guess I get wicked gas from time to time, but that is not painful… for me at least I had a great class this week. The lecture covered IT governance models and the professor veered off the slides and talked in depth about his experience as CIO of Colorado state government. This was much more beneficial that covering slides of material I have already read in the textbook. The class discussion was lively and everyone participated. In my opinion, this is how all gradulate level class sessions should be, rather than reviewing textbook material with little linkage to practical application. Tonight I have to get a significant amount of work done for class. Two papers and a semester project… Oh My! As I type, I’m sitting outside on our patio catsitting a couple felines that are roaming the yard. Vinnie had to be escorted back into the house after jumping on top of the fence and nearly escaping the yard. I’m amazed that he is able to get on top of our 6 foot fence. This is the same cat that whines at the washing machine for a lift to reach the cat food we keep on top. Perhaps the fresh air and sun inspires him to be more athletic. Our two best behaved cats are mostly lounging around roasting in the sun. Turtle likes to camp out in a small plant plot in the middle of the lawn. I snapped a few photos of her and will post them later. Tigger is munching on some grass and laying around. The grass is good for them and aids with digestion, however, they usually vomit it up a few minutes after coming back in the house. I really wish the could vomit before coming back in… In a few minutes we will be going to the dog park. We think Iris needs a bit more exercise (and so do we!), so we’ll take her and her friend for some fun. With the great weather we are having, I imagine there will be lots of dogs there I should take our camera to catch the madness on film (or SD memory…). As I was leaving work on Friday, the SVP of IT updated us on some big news going on at the company. A huge project that resulted in a vacation freeze has been delayed 60 days at least. This is great news for our summer plans and will now have a shot at taking the roadtrip back to Chicago that we have been talking about. 3 Responses to “Its a beautiful day in the neighborhood…”Leave a Reply |

Well I hope that your summer vacation to IL works out; it would be great to see both of you in person!Maybe consider renting a larger vehicle so you could be able to take some of your “stuff” back with you(just joking).
I just picked up a copy of TIME Magazine with the lead story of the 5 Best Mayors in the USA and Mayor Hick is one of them along with our own Mayor Daley; I’ll send you the article.
I’m in the middle of a class on Instructional Strategies & will be finished at the end of May. It is bureaucratic but the students are interesting. I’m finishing a film study class this Sat at National Lewis College in the Loop.
Cafe Europa is one of my favorite Denver coffee shops; we don’t have anything like it on the SW side;probably the north side has similar cafe’s (spelling correct?).Mom is excited about her new job &location. She has earned it! Our short “summer” is over; back to the 50’s & maybe lower for the weekend. It would be nice if you were in for the Chgo Air & Water Show; I remember we went there for the trial run on Fri before the crowds gather on Sat. Bella is being visited by a possible stray cat in the neighborhood & there is periodic hissing/posturing on both sides of the window.
Pray for the new Pope.

The article about Hickenlooper was all over the news here early this week. Some people are hoping he runs for Governor when Owen’s tenure is up. I hope Hick sticks around Denver. Despite being kinda geeky, he is a great mayor and has won several progressive campaigns while in office (Fastracks, etc).
Hopefully you will still be visiting early next month. I know you like Europa, but I prefer Cafe Armazen on Colfax. You can’t beat the charm of Colfax and the atmosphere of a Brazilian owned cafe. Tonight I noticed a chess board available… We’l have to head up there and play a game!
You should let Bella’s visitor in! You guys could use another cat
Pope, what Pope?
