Fun in the sunPosted In: Everyday life — June 13, 2005 @ 10:17 pm — PeterThis past weekend Stephanie and I managed to squeeze in a day of gardening and finished up right before a storm front moved in. Although our last attempt at a vegetable gardening didn’t work out so well, we decided to give it another try. We laid things out differently this time, planting everything south of the garage roof overhang. I have no idea why we planted things under there last season. It seems anything planted there would get very little water when it rains and would retain little water since the ground is on a small slope. This time around we planted tomatoes, cucumbers, green bell peppers, brussel sprouts, kale, basil, watermelon, and rhubard and chives returned from a previous planting. Here is a picture of our newly planted garden patch. After wrapping up the veggies, we planted some flowers. The front of our house looks a bit bare, so we planted some gerbera daisies. We hope they spread a bit and add a splash of color. From what I’ve read so far, they won’t last the winter. I’m not exactly sure where we will keep them if we have to dig them up and store them in pots… I’ll have to solicit the advice of a few green thumbs at work and see if they have any strategies for keeping these little guys warm through the cold season. They didn’t show up very well in the photos, but here they are anyway… [pic1] [pic2] And… I could not resist taking a picture of these guys! Aren’t they lovely?!?
