Barb’s wedding and family visit

Posted In: Everyday life — July 1, 2005 @ 3:57 pm — Stephanie

Well, as loathe as I am to bump Iris’ dalliance with the evil terrier from the front page, it’s been nearly a week since Aunt Barb’s wedding and I’ve yet to post any photos. I have been busy with outings with parents and Aunt Sharon, but now that they are safely ensconced on a plane heading east, I no longer have any excuses.

The ceremony and reception were held at this darling little cottage in Arvada, just a few blocks from Barb’s townhouse. The ceremony was held outside under the arches of a tree-covered arbor. Although the forecast called for an early rain, it managed to hold off until well after the ceremony and even then, only drizzled for a few moments. The wedding was a nice change from the usual traditional church affair. For one thing, the ceremony was read in Hebrew and in English, which was neat. Aunt Barb walked around Bob 7x, for some reason I couldn’t quite understand. Before the ceremony, Bob had to go make sure Barb was the one under the veil and that he wasn’t being tricked to marry someone else, as Jacob was tricked to marry Leah instead of Rachel in the Bible.

They read their vows, which were really sweet. Well, at least Barb’s were–nobody could hear Bob’s! :)

Following the ceremony, Peter and I enjoyed a huge fruit plate and an eggplant/tofu dish prepared especially for us by the caterers. There was dancing and a rockabilly/country type of band, but Peter wouldn’t budge out of his seat to dance. Apparently, not enough alcohol was consumed, and his courage was flagging by the minute every time one of my cousins tried dragging him out to dance floor. Pity that, he might have bested the dancing Rabbi’s slick moves out there.

It was really nice seeing everyone again. I hadn’t seen my Aunt Rose, Aunt Sharon, or cousins Bonnie and Caril since the family reunion in the fall of 2003. I hadn’t seen my cousins Kim or Matt in awhile, either, so it was nice seeing them, too. Shadow, their dog, was supposed to be a part of the wedding, but she rolled in something stinky when she was let out to pee and exercise.

And in the end, they hopped on their newly decorated Harley (courtesy of Bonnie, Caril, and Kim) and sped off for years of wedded bliss. Yes, you may all freely vomit at my cheesy description. Thanks.

I’ll post again soon with photos of my outing to Garden of the Gods and Pike’s Peak with Mom, Bill, and Aunt Sharon.
