Nursery photos up

Posted In: Everyday life — August 23, 2005 @ 3:33 pm — Stephanie

Take a peek at what we have so far.

Still a few things left to be done. We need to figure out what sort of window treatments we’ll be using, as those horrid blinds can’t stay up. Ick. Plantation shutters would be nice. We shall see… It looks so pretty in there. Whenver I pass by, I stick my head in to marvel at the fact that soon–very soon–there will be a baby nestled in her crib.

What else is new? Well, we found a dog. We were coming home from doing some shopping and nearly hit a dog lapping water out of a dirty puddle. Peter stopped the car and I jumped out to stop the dog from running into the street. The dog belly crawled over to me and licked my hand. Friendly. Good. I scooped her up and tossed her in the back seat and a-way we went. She has a collar on with an expired rabies tag from another county. That lead led to absolutely nothing, so I’ve been busy calling all the animal agencies in town, hoping someone called in search of her. Her name is Hailey, or at least it was when she was adopted out at the humane society her tag was from. She’s a beagle/bassett mix and soooo wonderful. We’re so lucky she wasn’t a snarling beasty that hates cats and other dogs. This dog is fabulous with Iris (they romp and play like nobody’s business) and she shows a healthy respect for the cats. If the owner cannot be located in the next 24 hours, she won’t have any problem finding a new home. We’re going to post signs around the neighborhood, pet stores, vet offices, and shelters. Hopefully, this guy will see one and call…or actually LOOK for his dog and call. We left our phone numbers all over the place. I don’t understand why he hasn’t called yet. If this were Iris, I’d be in hysterics!

Almost 26 weeks!

baby

Just a week and a few days before I’m in my third trimester!!! It is going by so, so, so fast. According to this website, baby would have an 80-90% chance of survival if she were born at 26 weeks. Hitting milestones like this make me feel so much better and safer.

Update

What is new…? Pictures of: trip, Melissa’s wedding, and Iris all in the photo gallery.

Peter and I headed west to Breckenridge, CO, this past weekend, on the recommendation from one of the ladies in my sewing class. It was nice, albeit not quite what we had in mind for a relaxing getaway. Since we had an awful time finding a place with room to board Iris, she accompanied us on the drive out. We found a nice place for her about a mile from where we were staying. Breckenridge is a cute little ski town that seems to live for skiing season. Since we visited out of season, there really wasn’t much for a pregnant woman to do. I can’t wait until this wee one is older and can join us on a rafting trip or sailing lessons! Near Breckenridge is Dillon, CO, known for its absolutely breathtaking lake/dam/what have you. It was just so, so beautiful! Iris really enjoyed getting knee-deep in the crystal clear water (do dogs have knees?). Overnight while we were gone, there evidently was a small landslide on the road we were traveling on. Good thing for us, it was on the westbound side. We felt so sorry for the cars lined up for miles and miles and miles and miles without any hope of moving soon.

Here’s a pic of the beautiful Dillon dam/lake:

My sister, Melissa, sent me a disc of photos from her May wedding, which I was, unfortunately, unable to attend. She made a lovely bride and it was great to see pics of my niece and nephews as well. Here are two pics from this event:

Melissa and her new husband, Josh–

My nephew David, niece Destiny, and nephew Cameron–

This is an image heavy entry already, but oh! Just one more! Iris has been a total wuss about going out in the rain, so we picked this lovely yellow raincoat up at Petsmart for a mere $2. We couldn’t resist:

The nursery is all painted, Peter’s dad is coming to visit for Peter’s birthday weekend, I ordered him a yummy birthday cake from a local bakery, and baby is growing steadily, moving all the time. Life is feeling pretty close to perfect right now…well, as perfect as I’ve ever known.

Progress

Yay! For all of my naysaying and doubts about Peter’s ability to get things done in a timely manner, I’m proud to say that I am now eating my words. Yum Yum! :) Everything is now painted, save for the trim. We’ll be working on that today, so hopefully we’ll be all done by tonight. The room looks so pretty… As soon as it’s cleaned up in there, we’ll post some pictures. She’s going to love it in there (I hope!). The furniture should be here by the end of September, so then all we’ll need is baby!

Baby seems to be doing well inside, as far as I can tell. My next appointment is on Friday. I’m still nauseated every day, my feet feel broken, my back hurts in places I’ve never felt before, and I’ve been having ligament stretching pains here and there. Peter has been pretty great about it all–food aversions, mood swings, whining, foot rubs, back rubs, and bending over to pick something up when I just…can’t. heh. The weather has been very warm for awhile now, and it’s taking its toll on me. I wish I knew someone with a pool! Crowded public schools scare me, so that’s a no-go. I used to go to one when I was a kid, and have horrible memories of various bodily fluids and solids floating around. Blech!!!! Squirting myself with the hose feels nice, but is ultimately unsatisfying. Peter looks on with amazement when I do this. He can’t stand getting wet, so of course I amuse myself by hosing him down. : D

Time for mamas to get back to work in the nursery. Pictures will follow very shortly… I think I’ve got a cute one of Peter with paint on his nose.

Edited to add: Oh yeah, since my sister Melissa commented on my journal, I’ve realized that I have no pictures of her or her family on our website. I don’t have any of Autumn, Cameron, or Dan either, but… Melissa provided me with linkage, so I’ve no excuse not to post pics of her insanely cute kids.

David (6 years)– I wish I had a picture of Melissa on here. He looks just like her. It’s uncanny!

Destiny (4 years)– Sadly, I’ve only seen Destiny a handful of times so far. She’s a cutie, though, isn’t she?

Movin’ right along

Posted In: Everyday life — August 2, 2005 @ 9:08 pm — Peter

Last night Stephanie and I were hanging out on the couch talking about baby stuff when we came to the conclusion that we have not noticed much activity in the belly lately. Just as we were trying to determine when the last movement occurred, Stephanie was jolted with a little kick. Perhaps our conversation was overheard and someone was letting us know that things were going just fine. Later in the evening, I put my ear to Stephanie’s belly and tapped lightly. My taps were answered with a few swift kicks. Baby seems to be doing well and we are excited as ever as we make progress on the nursery.

The nursery is not coming together as quickly as we had planed, but process is definitely being made. I’ve relocated all computer stuff, sold the desk, and put the obnoxiously large office chair in the trash for large item pickup after having a cat vomit all over it. All that remains in the office at this point is a paper shredder and a few nursery items. Hopefully by the end of this week I’ll start taping off the trim, laying down the drop cloths, and wrapping up other preparation activities for painting.

Other news… I’m switching jobs and my last day at SunCorp is Friday. I’m sad to leave all the friends I have made, but I’ll do my best to stay in touch. My new employer will be Fiserv and they are conveniently located in downtown Denver. I’ll be trading in my current 16.7 mile commute for a 3.8 mile stroll. I’ve yet to investigate the building for showers, but I intend to bike to work once or twice a week. Other days I’ll be taking advantage of the RTD EcoPass benefit. I’m thrilled to have landed a job downtown with a company that has plenty of opportunities for advancement. I look forward to the challenges that await me. My current coworkers have been wonderful and are very supportive of the decision I have made.

Last but not least… I’ve begun a bit of an exercise routine. It has been nearly two weeks now that I’ve been squeezing a morning jog into my schedule. There are still a few kinks to work out in my timing, but I should have plenty of time to fit a mile or two in once I am spending less time schlepping myself to work. My goal is to be jogging two miles each day, without interruption to my morning schedule, by the end of August. Hopefully I’ve not cursed myself by speaking of this before it is an established routine…
