65

Posted In: Everyday life — September 27, 2005 @ 3:08 pm — Stephanie

I just wanted to freak myself out by posting that there are only 65 days between now and my due date. I’ll be 31 weeks on Thursday.

Le weekend

Posted In: Everyday life — September 25, 2005 @ 10:57 pm — Stephanie

Peter and I went over to my aunt’s house (Barb) to play the ultrasound DVD for her and her new husband, Bob. They adopted a new kitten recently, so I got some kitten snuggling time in. Iris and Trixie (kitten) played nearly the entire time we were there. Trixie kept ambushing Iris by hiding and popping out at the last second to pounce on her tail. It was adorable! :)

Saturday was our big date night. We were given the assignment at our childbirth prep class, and Peter really went with it. He wouldn’t give me any details about our evening, only mentioning that I’d need to dress nice but not formally. So, I squeezed my pregnant butt into a pair of black pants and a cute red/black shirt. I think I looked like a fat ladybug, but Peter assures me I looked nice. We drove downtown and parked a block of the 16th Street Mall (around where Peter works) and walked to the restaurant–a lovely little Indian place tucked into a side street. Dinner was excellent and the place was so cute. Peter and I talked about the baby, next summer, and how fast time has passed since we met when we were high school kids. It’s strange to realize that we pretty much grew up together…

After dinner, we headed for the car, so I had no idea if we were staying downtown or going off in another direction. We ended up parking outside the huge Denver Arts complex, so I knew we were seeing some kind of performance (either symphony or a theatre production). It was the symphony! We got there and found our seats just in time, because the lights dimmed and the musicians stopped warming up. It was neat to see that the conductor was the woman I’d read about just a few weeks ago. Peter and I don’t know much about ‘classical’ music, but we really enjoyed ourselves. So, apparently, did someone else! During the finale of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Baby started kicking like crazy along with the frenzied playing of the musicians and movements of the conductor. It was incredibly intense, feeling so overwhelmed by three senses, that I very nearly cried from the emotional surge. It was amazing!!! She’s never moved that much in the entire 30 weeks. Maybe we have a little conductor in there! :)

Peter then took me to Watercourse to pick up some cake and we took it home with us, ending a perfect evening with the person I love most in the world. Every now and then, Peter amazes me with how thoughtful he can be. We may have a row once a week lately (damn hormones), but at the end of the day, I know I’ve won the lottery with him.

We had such a great time on that date, that we’ve decided to do a big date night like this next month and in November (until the baby comes). We spend a lot of time together, but we haven’t been on a ‘date’ in years! So, next time it’s my turn. I’m going to plan something that will hopefully be as enjoyable as this date was.

29.3 Weeks Pics

Posted In: Everyday life — September 19, 2005 @ 3:28 pm — Stephanie

Taken yesterday afternoon by Peter… I’ve gotten MUCH bigger in the last two weeks.

And here’s the little grasshopper taking refuge inside:

Also…

My glucosa test came back with perfectly normal, non-elevated results. So…no gestational diabetes for me! I was worried because of my family history, but everything is fine! SUCH a relief!!!

Third Trimester

Posted In: Everyday life — September 13, 2005 @ 2:29 pm — Peter

It’s official, we have entered the third trimester! Baby is right around the corner. Our old college friends had their baby a few days ago. They had a little girl and named her Emma Joy. Congratulations Matt and Amanda and best of luck!

On Monday we had our first child birth preparation class at Rose Medical Center. We have not decided yet if we’ll be using Rose, St. Luke’s, or St. Joseph… We’ll be touring each facility in the coming weeks and hopefully decide soon. The class was fun and I discovered there is much to learn about the child birthing process. Despite being nearly done with The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips and Advice for Dads-To-Be, I need to concentrate more on the labor process and figuring out how to keep myself together while seeing Stephanie in intense pain. The class consists of 8 or so couples, many of which are our age. The couple that we sat next to lives a few blocks away from us and also are animal lovers with a gaggle of pets :) Perhaps our babies (and dogs) can be playmates :D
This morning was quite cold and I’m thinking that the Vespa won’t be ridable for much longer. Even now, the temperature is 54F… I imagine this is a sign that Fall is here and I’ll only have a few more weeks of riding. It is tons of fun and I already feel very confident riding it. At first I was a bit scared, but after a few trips down 13th and 14th Ave, I feel like I’ve been riding it for years. I’ll post some pictures of it to our gallery soon, but for now here is a single snapshot:

Tomorrow night I’ll be going to a political meet up of sorts… I was invited by an old friend from St. Louis. No time now to explain how we met up again… Perhaps next time.

Belly…

Posted In: Everyday life — September 6, 2005 @ 1:25 pm — Stephanie

I’ve just started taking belly pics in the last few weeks, mostly because my changes were very subtle for a long time. Well, in the last 5 weeks, I’ve blossomed! They always come out really, really crappy, for reasons I’m not sure of. I took them in the middle of the afternoon, windows open, the room flooded with light, and experimented with the flash, but they came really dark. I lightened them up in Paint Shop Pro, so at least they are visible! :) Notice sexxxy appendectomy scar… :/

Here’s me at 22 weeks along:

And here’s me at 27 weeks (taken on Friday):

My aunt Barb and her husband Bob came over last night to drop off some adorable baby things she “just had to buy”. She managed to avoid getting all pink, which is pretty good for her, considering EVERYTHING my cousin Kim had was pink. And, as they pointed out, Kim’s room is STILL pink! :D

I hope she can plan her visit with my cousin Ben and his family to coincide with the party I’m planning for my little girl. I would love it if she could be there! My mom’s side of the family is pretty big…and they LOVE to hold babies. Word to the wise for those attending who aren’t part of this bizarre cult I call family–if you want to hold the baby you’ll have to speak up. That baby will probably be passed around in arms the entire day… I might have to arm wrestle someone to be able to take my own daughter off to breastfeed her. ;) They are a nice bunch, just totally crazy about babies. There are a lot of them, though, so keep the Alfred Hitchcock and Winston Churchill comparisons to yourself! Or, you can share them with me or Peter. We know our baby will be the best looking baby in the world, but I bet Alfred and Winston’s mommies and daddies thought so too.

Current nicknames for baby in utero:

Little Grasshopper (all that hopping going on in there!), Whoosh-Whoosh (heartbeat sound), June Bug (this came from my mom, but I have to admit to it growing on me with every pesky kick to my lower ribs), and Cletus the Fetus, which I shamelessly stole from someone else. This is our standard response when someone asks what the name will be. Or Hortense Hagatha Francine, Elegieee Tragedieee Morgue-Anna, and Ninja Sunshine Appleblossom. Sometimes, Peter likes to say Potato—pronounced Poh-TAH-toe, of course. Poh-TAY-toe works only for a boy, you see…
