veinte seis años

I’ve been pretty busy lately and not found time to put a post together until this lovely holiday morning. It will be tough to summarize what has went on over the past few weeks. Most notable, I’m now 26 years old. My Dad came to Denver for a weekend visit and we had a great time hangin’ around the house and doing stuff around the city. The Chicago Cubs were in town that weekend, so we went to see them play. It was amusing to see more Cubs apparel than Rockies. Also, more people were cheering for the Cubs too! Despite the support of the Chicago fans, the Cubs lost to one of the worst baseball teams in the league. Dad and I also played a few games of chess on the boards at the 16th street mall. He stayed at a the Oxford House in Lodo which has a prime location near the best spots of downtown.

My new job is going very well. I’ve been tasked with quite a few projects and am working extremely hard to meet deadlines. Tomorrow is going to be intense as I have to start wrapping up several things that will be due on Friday. As far as not having to commute 10+ miles to work everyday, I love it! I’ve been taking the lovely Colfax 15 everyday and largely avoiding the spike in gas prices that has occurred over the past few days. While the commute is not much shorter time wise (the bus stops a hell of alot), I have time to read, listen to podcasts, and daydream. It has been fun strolling around the 16th street mall on lunch breaks too.

This past Saturday I attended a coworkers wedding and it was absolutely beautiful. The ceremony was held at a golf course outside Roxborough state park and the setting was picture perfect. The weather almost took the ceremony inside, but thankfully the strong winds and drizzle subsided. I don’t know why I didn’t take my camera with me. I would have loved to get a few pictures of Eric and Jennifer exchanging their vows with the stunning jagged red rocks in the distance. I attended the wedding with another former coworker and we had a great time talking about everything going on in each others lives. Thanks for bringing me along Maureen, and thank you Eric and Jennifer for ensuring there was a vegetarian meal for me to eat!

Last night Stephanie and I headed over to Aunt Barb’s house for an impromptu visit. The conversation was full of graphic descriptions of various birthing processes and breast feeding horror stories. Despite the context of the conversation, us guys hung in there. I got a chance to cruise around on the Vespa, which is currently for sale. The one issue I have is, the scooter was “crashed” a few weeks ago. From what I can tell, the extent of the damage is surface scratches and nothing appears to be structurally wrong with the bike. The steering was normal and the engine sounds fine. From observing the age of Vespas I’ve seen around Denver, they are rugged little machines and hold up well. I’m going to get on the fast track to selling my old Toyota and then use the money to buy this little guy. Perhaps I’ll post to some Vespa forums to see what other owners have to say about a bike that has been crashed.

Well, I think that about summarizes the last month or so in a nutshell. I’ve got quite a few pictures from the past waiting in queue to get posted. Stephanie has sorted and cropped pictures from our Europe trip, assorted cat photos, and other pictures from family visits. Stay tuned for the updates!
