been a while

It sure has been a long time since I’ve taken time to post to this lovely website I’ve spent so much time building. We’ve been up to quite a bit lately and have some great stories to share. Following our wonderful date to the symphony, Stephanie and I went to see Seinfeld at the Bulle Theater last weekend. I’ve wanted to see Seinfeld perform stand up for sometime now, but have never had any luck obtaining tickets or being able to afford it. While it wasn’t exactly inexpensive to see his performance, it sure was worth every penny. Jerry did his usual routine of picking out idiosyncrasies of American English and nit picking at human behavior until it was evident that we are ridiculous creatures. He also dipped into his recent experiences of getting married and having children. This of course hit close to home for me and made me laugh until my stomach hurt!

Baby is almost here and I’m remaining surprisingly calm. I’m not sure when panic will set in, perhaps when labor starts? I guess I feel fairly well prepared with the amount of reading and research I’ve done. Although it has not been very much research/reading, I feel ready for the challenges that are ahead. One more parenting class remains. I’m thinking of the ‘Daddy Bootcamp’ that covers the basics of diaper changing, calming screaming baby, etc. Oh, look at that… the class starts on October 15th. I better register!

We finished painting the nursery! Stephanie did 90% of the work and kept the project going despite my efforts to find ten thousand another things to do simply to avoid the arduous task of stencil painting. It wasn’t the painting that was so bad, it was cleaning the flimsy plastic stencil punch-outs after each application of paint. Anyway, it is done and we are thrilled. Pictures will be posted soon!

Hockey season is underway and the Colorado Avalanche are showing signs of a pretty good season. Despite only playing a few games, I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far. Their first home game against the Calgary Flames was a scoring fest that ended with rookie Svatos getting a hat trick. It was nice to see the younger players be the stars of the game instead of the senior members. Who knows, the Avs might have it in them this year to make it to the cup, especially under new management. I doubt we’ll make it out to see many games this season. Brian was nice enough to pass along some great pre-season tickets a couple weeks ago. Unless he scores some more tickets, we’ll likely be watching games from our cozy couch :)

Other things on my plate involve winterizing our house (yes, winter is right around the corner and we’ve had our first snowfall already…), putting in some extra hours at work, reading the Baby Signs book, and organizing our finances with Quicken. I think I’ve demystified transaction downloads with Quicken and our bank. It appears I have to enroll in something for it to work. Hopefully this won’t cost extra… I’m scared to see the average amount of money we spend dining out per month… *gulp*
