Goodbye Tigger…Posted In: Everyday life — July 18, 2006 @ 3:16 pm — StephanieLast night we had to make the difficult, heart-breaking decision to put our beloved cat, Tigger, to sleep. She was fading fast, having trouble breathing, stopped grooming herself, and finally, stopped eating this weekend. Seeing her suffering like that just broke my heart. She lived eighteen years, and each one of those eighteen years is forever etched on my heart. She will not be forgotten, and she will be loved. My sister, Melissa, picked her out as a kitten from the wood pile behind my Uncle Peba and Aunt Virge’s house. Tigger came to live with me in Edwardsville in 1999 and then out to Denver in 2003. She was a wonderful cat, so gentle and loving. I can’t believe she’s gone. She’s been a fixture in my life for so long… She died in my arms last night, peacefully and too soon, she was gone. Goodbye, my Tiggerlily. We will always love you and miss you. Taken yesterday: Better days: ****
Halfway there…Posted In: Academic, Everyday life — July 4, 2006 @ 10:58 pm — PeterHalfway there… A couple of Thursdays ago, I turned in the final examination for another class at Regis in my pursuit of a Masters Degree. This class puts me at the halfway point of the degree program and on the cusp of earning a token graduate certificate in Information Assurance. Without trying to sound too cliché, it seems like it was just yesterday that I began looking for a graduate program that would see past my less than stellar undergraduate record and give me a chance to perform at a graduate level. Well, here I am, putting another “A” under my belt and taking a short break from class work to enjoy the rest of summer with my wonderful family.
The last class I completed, Securing & Protecting Systems Applications & Data, was pretty lousy and required an odd project assignment to construct a web-based information security assessment tool. Enrollment was very low for the course, so only one team was assembled to complete the project. The project grade reflected only 10% of the overall course grade, despite spending nearly all my time working on it. Either way, it was a fun project as I got reacquainted with many technologies I’ve not used in a while. I’m looking forward to a break from school. I’ll be taking 8 weeks off at the least, 16 weeks at the most. During that time I’ll likely spend a few hours here and there planning my practicum project and clearing it past my advisor and other faculty members that may be involved in oversight. Most importantly, I’ll have loads of free time to spend with Amelia and Stephanie. Amelia is at a very fun age right now and is quite active with her recently acquired crawling and standing skills. We’ll be taking a trip out east in September to Myrtle Beach and it will be a relief not to have to muck with course work while on vacation. So, I’m going to make an effort to update our website more often and resist temptation to hack with the code or take up another redesign effort. Instead, I’ll be focused on publishing more content!
She’s brilliant!Posted In: Everyday life — July 1, 2006 @ 3:24 pm — StephanieWhat Amelia can do now: *Sit up unsupported without any tottering at all Likes: *mama milk!!! Dislikes: *peaches New pictures (and a video!) will be added soon. It’s been pretty darn busy around here. Little Miss gets into EVERYTHING! I’m making my own baby food from scratch with organic produce I buy at the farmer’s market and the stores. It’s super easy and she seems to prefer it! Yay! Amelia and I also started attending a weekly event held at the library closest to our house-called Book Babies. About 20 moms and babies get into a circle and sing, point out various body parts, make noise, and read to the babies. Afterward, the babies and moms have a social hour. It’s fun! I’m also looking to join a swim class, a baby yoga class, and a group of moms in my area that get together to walk the babies and talk. Fun, eh? In addition, I joined an online book club, so I’ve been pretty busy! We’ve been taking plenty of photos, but it’s a lot of work getting them ready for the site, and then Peter has to work his magic at getting them up on the site. I’m exhausted thinking about doing the photos! Well, today we are off to check out the Cherry Creek Art Festival, which is about a mile from here. We went last year when I was pregnant and craving snowcones. They had ‘em! It poured with rain, but dammit, I had my snowcone! |
