From 80 to snow…Posted In: Everyday life — October 21, 2007 @ 1:52 pm — PeterWe’re in the midst of wild weather season here in Denver. Yesterday saw a high of 80 degrees, now I’m looking out at my snow covered yard. The snow has stopped as of an hour ago, now the sun is blazing and it will probably melt quickly. Keeping a 2 year old cooped up on the weekend because of bad weather isn’t easy. We went through her toy bins to find items she has not played with in a while and colored a few pictures as well. After lunch and another play session, she is fast asleep for an afternoon nap. I’m trying to power through some laundry and get other household chores done while trapped inside for a couple more hours. I’m not too fond of snow. It makes getting around really annoying, every trip outside requires bundling up and then carefully removing wet items before coming back in. It pretty much makes simple errands take twice as long. I’m hoping for another round of Indian Summer to stave off the winter months for a couple more weeks. I wonder how Denver is going to host the World Series with this unpredictable weather? Amelia can’t be kept in all day. We’re going to venture out after her nap to visit the Cherry Creek Mall play area and do some light grocery shopping. Need to burn some of this toddler energy! Here is a snapshot of our front and back yard during the heaviest part of the snowfall:
Crash, Boom, Bang…Posted In: Everyday life — October 14, 2007 @ 4:09 pm — PeterThis morning Amelia and I visited my brother Brian and we all went for a trip to the Cherry Creek Mall play area. As nap time approached, Amelia and I started to head home. Every usual way I take to get back to the east-side of Denver was blocked by roadblocks to make way for Denver Marathon runners (annoying!!!). My frustration was minimal until forced to detour a few miles out of the way to get around the race. As I was heading to I25, I was rear ended while at a complete stop. A SUV hit a Subaru Outback, which hit me. It was very stressful trying to deal with all this while rainy and cold. Thankfully Brian walked the few blocks over and helped keep Amelia happy while I worked out the details with the police officer. Everyone is okay. We took Amelia to the ER to have her checked over. She actually enjoyed the ER visit, especially all the attention she got from the nurses. She even got a kitty sticker too! Here is our poor car:
Stay the coursePosted In: Academic — October 10, 2007 @ 10:03 pm — PeterAfter a ~5 month break from the Regis MSCIT program, I’ll be returning to class October 22nd. I’m veering off the plan since once of my intended electives is unavailable this term. I resisted the urge to take another advanced software engineering course and instead booked myself for two management oriented courses. One of the courses requires use of Microsoft Project. This will be an interesting use of virtual machine software since my primary computer is now a MacBook Pro. Tonight I had some time to scope out the required texts and first night assignments. Regis works on an 8 week term length with an assignment due the first night of class. Five books total, one I already have. Tallying up the total via Amazon.com, $250! I didn’t budget for this at all and was not looking forward to shaving money from other expenses. Before ordering, I collected the ISBNs and pumped them into the Prospector interlibrary loan system. Could I get any luckier?!? All the books were available and will be arriving at Regis library in a couple days. With any luck I’ll keep them for the 21 days + 1 renewal period and not have to shell out any cash for texts this term. Time to hit the books!
Kids day at Ping!Posted In: Amelia, Work life — October 1, 2007 @ 10:17 am — PeterMy employer, Ping Identity, hosted a kids luncheon last Friday with catered food, gift bags, and other assorted treats for the kids. I forgot my camera, but thankfully one of my coworkers was making the rounds with his snazzy Nikon DSLR. At my request, he captured this snapshot of Amelia taking a break from the festivities to cut some code. Thanks Mark! |
