First Day of School!

Posted In: Amelia, Academic, Everyday life — April 7, 2008 @ 11:49 pm — Stephanie

Today marked yet another milestone Amelia has reached–her first day of school and her first time ever left with someone who isn’t family. Although her school is walking distance from our house, policy for the first week dictates we drive so that we have a quick exit in case there is separation anxiety. And there was plenty of that—but not on Amelia’s part. Nope, it was Mama who was in tears as we pulled away from the school. Amelia? She ran straight into the schoolyard with her teachers and classmates and never looked back. One of her teachers, seeing my obvious anxiety, was sweet enough to give me a call of reassurance. Mia was doing great, playing independently and was in good spirits. Such a relief to hear!

While I was thrilled she was doing so well, let’s just say that my eyes never strayed too far from the clock. Was she missing me? Calling for me at the door? At 4:30, it was time to pick her up. We get there and we don’t even get as much as a hello! In fact, she straight up refused to come with us. She was busy playing with this darling little blond boy. We had to stay until his mom came to pick him up and then little stinker followed him towards his car. So much for her desperately missing Mommy! :/

She stayed dry and used the potty like a pro. Absolutely NO problems. She had a blast, and I feel a lot better about her going again tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow I’ll even do something with my free time other than stay home, clutching my mobile phone, with my eyes firmly trained on the clock…

Without further ado, here’s our little schoolgirl!
