Finally rode a Segway!Posted In: Travel, Everyday life — July 19, 2008 @ 11:02 pm — PeterI recall all the hype around the “revolutionary” Segway personal transport device prior to its release. Riding one has always been on my todo list, but the opportunity has never come up. Today at the Royal Gorge Bridge, there was a guy with a collection of 5 or so Segways. For the small fee of $5 bucks, you get a brief lesson and time to zip around the patio area of the park. Yippe! It was a blast!
Swarming!Posted In: Work life — May 30, 2008 @ 12:41 pm — PeterSwarming, aka, working outside the office, has been on my regular schedule 2 days a week for the past few months. I really enjoy the extra family time I get during lunch and breaks. In the photo below, Amelia somehow sensed that the work day was over (5:15pm) and declared it story time.
CommencementPosted In: Academic — May 7, 2008 @ 10:56 pm — PeterLast weekend was Spring commencement at Regis. It was a lovely ceremony and the weather turned out to be perfect despite a gloomy forecast. Believe it or not, I got a bit of redness on my face from the intense Colorado sun. There are a few loose ends to wrap up before I’m officially a “graduate”, but no reason not to celebrate now
The ceremony was a wee bit long for Amelia, she said “all done”.
Don’t gamble with Colorado weatherPosted In: Everyday life — April 17, 2008 @ 10:29 pm — PeterOn Tuesday, the high temperature was in the low 80’s. Bright sunshine, nice breeze, spring was in the air. Wednesday morning, I watched the 6am news while eating breakfast. The forecast called for huge temperature drops and a chance of snow in the PM. How could we get snow after an 80 degree day, no way… I decided to ride my scooter to work despite the forecast. The snow started falling around 3:30, but it was not cold enough for it to accumulate. Without any accumulation, it seemed possible to ride my scooter home, dumb idea It was a intensely painful ride. The visor broke off my helmet weeks after buying it, so I was riding into snow at 35mph with bare skin. I considered ditching my scooter at York & Colfax and catching the bus, but decided to press on. The rest of the ride was tolerable, my face went numb and I managed to clean the snow off my sunglasses at traffic lights. Here is a photo of me a couple minutes after getting home:
Ping Cap DayPosted In: Everyday life — April 11, 2008 @ 10:02 am — PeterIt is cap day at Ping. What is cap day you ask?
1. Three different prizes will be given out. 2. At three random times throughout the day, a name will be drawn from a hat. If that 3. The prizes step up in size with each being bigger than the earlier one. 4. Time range of random drawings: 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Last night I discovered, I don’t have a cap. I stopped wearing caps at some point in high school or college. My plan was to get out last night to get a Colorado Avalanche hat, but the mall closed at 9pm. Thankfully, a thoughtful coworker thought of me and brought me a cap! Don’t worry, I’ve not become a Red Wings fan overnight, I’m still loyal Avalanche fan! I was, however, a fan of the Red Wings in grade school. It hasn’t been since Steve Yzerman, Sergei Federov, Nicklas Lidstom, and Tim Cheveldae dominated the ice that I’ve been a fan. I made the mistake of admitting this during my first job interview in Denver. Being that I stopped following hockey for several years, I was unaware of the huge rivalry that had developed between the Avalanche and Red Wings. I wonder why I didn’t get offered that job « Previous Entries Next Entries » |
